Texas Licensure (Enacted 1991)
Texas home inspectors are licensed and regulated by the Texas Real Estate Commission. Home inspectors may be licensed under the following categories: 1) Apprentice Inspector, 2) Real Estate Inspector, and 2) Professional Inspector. The following licensing requirements apply:
Apprentice Inspector
Real Estate Inspector

18 years of age or older
-
U.S. citizen or legal alien
-
Identify a Professional Inspector sponsor
-
Successful completion of three months and 25 home inspection under direct supervision of a Professional Inspector
-
Successful completion of 90 hours of approved education
-
Successful passage of an approved examination
Professional Inspector
-
18 years of age or older
-
U.S. citizen or legal alien
-
Have served as a Real Estate Inspector for one year and 175 home inspections under direct supervision of a Professional Inspector
-
Successful completion of 30 hours of approved education
-
Successful passage of an approved examination
* No insurance requirements apply
