South Dakota Licensure (Enacted 2000)

South Dakota home inspectors are licensed and regulated under the Real Estate Commission. Home inspectors may be registered or licensed. The following requirements apply:

Registered Home Inspector

• Successful completion of high school or equivalent

• Successful completion of 40 hours of approved education

• Successful passage of the National Home Inspector Exam

Licensed Home Inspector

• Successful completion of high school or equivalent

• Successful completion of 40 hours of approved education

• Successful completion of one year and 100 home inspections as a Registered Home Inspector

• Successful passage of the National Home Inspector Exam
