Rhode Island Licensure (Enacted 2000)
Rhode Island home inspectors are licensed and regulated by the Rhode Island Contractors - Registration Board. Home inspectors may be licensed under the following categories: 1) Associate Home Inspector and 2) Licensed Home Inspector. The following licensing requirements apply:
Associate Home Inspector

Successful completion of high school or equivalent

Successful assistance on 50 home inspections under direct supervision

Successful passage of the National Home Inspector Exam
Licensed Home Inspector

Successful completion of high school or equivalent

Have served as an Associate Home Inspector for no less than one year and 100 home inspections OR have been a registered/licensed contractor in any state for a cumulative 5 years

Successful passage of the National Home Inspector Exam
