New York Licensure (Enacted 2004)

New York home inspectors are licensed and regulated by the Department of State, Division of Licensing Services. The following licensing requirements apply:

• Successful completion of high school or equivalent

• Successful completion of 140 hours of approved education, 40 hours of which must be unpaid field based home inspections under direct supervision OR

• Successful completion of 100 home inspections under direction supervision

• Successful completion of the NYS exam

The following insurance requirements apply:

• General liability insurance - $150,000 (per occurrence) and $500,000 (aggregate)
